THE RAVEN IS FINALLY OUT ON DVD!!!
And believe me, it was not an easy wait. With Halloween coming up fast and the fantastic movie barely reachable, Poe became the sole force driving my reading list and writing inspirations. Yes, he was a depressive drunk by heart, but there’s always been something more to him. Something hidden in the way he writes, the way he chose his words and felt as he captured his scenes. The emotions are precisely haunting and intellectually beautiful. He is by far a timeless classic not for the faint of heart.
By now, you’re probably wondering about that subject line screaming Longfellow’s name (love me or hate me, I HAD to add the “Poe-lease” part muaha!). If you haven’t seen the movie, I won’t ruin it for you, but there’s a scene that the director chose to reveal just how much Poe despised Longfellow. When my best/writing friend and I watched the movie in theaters, we laughed hysterically at this scene because the timing of it was perfect (and the fact no one around us caught the historical note…not even the old people…that was the funniest and most tragic moment ever haha!).
All in all, Poe was definitely the master of his own creation. And ironically, the anniversary of his death was two days ago on October 7th.
May your glass ever be full, Mr. Poe!
